Our Story

Carlsbad deserves more than big box fitness.

The dawn of your best health is right around the corner.

Carlsbad Athletic Club was started by a group of friends and neighbors in Carlsbad who were tired of being stuck between the big chain gyms and piecemeal fitness services. We built our core services and tested our capabilities ourselves while training outdoors and making use of the unbeatable North County coastal climate.

We eventually realized that more people are looking for the same things: a facility that combines the latest science-backed research with elevated amenities, real testing, and a community that takes long-term health seriously.

We built this health club to serve the Carlsbad community.

Why We Built This

We didn't find what we were looking for. So we built it.

01No gym in Carlsbad combined performance testing with recovery amenities under one roof.
02Existing options were either budget chains or piecemeal services requiring multiple memberships.
03The coastal North County lifestyle deserves a facility that matches its health-forward culture.
04Longevity-focused training was available in San Diego, but not conveniently in Carlsbad.

A Carlsbad landmark, reborn.

Our home is the historic Carlsbad Theatre. It opened in 1927 in Spanish Eclectic style, seated 600 for the silent films of the era, and anchored State Street for the better part of a century before sitting mostly vacant in recent years. We're restoring its character while rebuilding the interior with modern coastal Spanish accents, creating an open club for training, recovery, and testing. Now, 100 years after it first opened its doors, we're opening them again as a new anchor for State Street, and for the Village.
